The Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad is the name given to the many ways that blacks took to escape slavery in the southern United States before the Civil War. This book tells that story through essays by historians Larry Gara,  Brenda E. Stevenson, and C. Peter Ripley. The book is a treasure trove of historic photographs and illustrations.
