One of a Kind
The Laundry Handcrafted in Sterling Silver by Norman K. Dann
Harriet Sims Russell, former slave and servant to Ann Carroll Fitzhugh (Smith),
was purchased by Gerrit Smith in 1841 "from slavery" in Kentucky- along with
her husband and five children-and brought "to freedom" in Peterboro, NY.
Harriet was employed in The Laundry for the Smith family for many years.
The Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark
is on the state and national Underground Railroad trails.
National Abolition Hall of Fame & Museum.
