Elizabeth Smith Miller (1822-1911)

Daughter of Gerrit Smith and Ann Carroll Fitzhugh. Educated by her father and governesses in Peterboro, New York at "manual labor school: in 1835-36 and in 1839 attended the Quaker Friends School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

At age 21 she married Charles Dudley Miller in 1843. The Miller's had 4 children:

Gerrit Smith Miller 1845-1937

Charley Dudley Miller II 1847-1897

William Fitzhugh Miller 1850-1876

After marriage Elizabeth and Charles lived for a short time in Cazenovia, New York and then back to Peterboro before finally settling in    Geneva, New York at Lochland, where she lived until her death in May 22,1911.

A community heritage gift shop, located within the Visitors Center on the Gerrit Smith Estate, National Historic Landmark, in Peterboro NY. The Mercantile is staffed and operated under the management of the Smithsield Community Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic Peterboro.
