Emancipation Day Celebrations August 7, 2010, Peterboro, NY. 

This year for the first time in at least 75 years an Emancipation Day celebration took place in Peterboro, NY. 
A welcome, remarks, songs and short speeches were followed by a group photo. A procession to the cemetery by pedestrians  and vehicles. A wreath laying on the grave of Gerrit Smith with another wreath on the gave of a former slave.
Co-chairs Jim Corpin of Peterboro and Max Smith of Oneida both descendants of Harriet Russell, an African American woman brought from slavery by Ann and Gerrit Smith of Peterboro.
The Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark 
is on the state and national Underground Railroad trails.
National Abolition Hall of Fame & Museum.
