Emancipation Day Celebrations 2011 DVD


The Second Annual Emancipation Day Celebrations August 6, 2011, Peterboro, NY.
Opens with the story of Harriet Russell's journey from slavery to freedom. This years family event to celebrate the history of freedom seekers who came to Peterboro with the aid of abolitionist Gerrit Smith. 
The morning program begins with a reception and refreshments, tent meeting, annual group photo in front of "Harriet's Place" the laundry, a procession to Peterboro Cemetery, a wreath ceremony to honor Gerrit Smith, and thanks to benefactors, a grave stone marking Billy Smith's grave, a freedom seeker who is buried in the cemetery.
